Betty Dowling is a life long resident of Florence County, living in Timmonsville.

She is married to Thomas Dowling, they have four children and are the proud grandparents of seven. The Dowling's are members of Florence Baptist Temple.

Betty is a businesswoman who worked professionally in the insurance industry and works with Thomas in his auto electric rebuilding business, TADCO Rebuilders.

In 2005, Betty ran for Florence Four school board. Her Board members elected her board secretary in 2005 and Vice-Chair in 2006 and 2007.  Believing she could better serve her community, Betty decided not to run for re-election to her school board seat, but rather ran for Florence County Council in 2008.  She was unsuccessful in that race, but remains active in the public school arena, continuing to serve on the School District Health Committee.   Betty actively advocates for our community and schools.
